There is a tree in the White Stork Synagogue’s courtyard. The White Stork Synagogue escaped total destruction during Kristallnacht – The Night of Broken Glass (November 9, 1938) – because of its proximity to apartment buildings inhabited by Germans, apartments recently inhabited by the Jewish families that were gathered in the Synagogue’s courtyard to be processed and taken away.
